#this is not an exaggeration okay #children do say this #children do wonder why they can’t find themselves in the media #don’t fucking tell me it doesn’t matter #it matters so much #children NEED to see themselves represented #or else they grow up feeling inferior and not worthy
the animators for this movie had a snowflake generator so that every single snowflake in the movie was different and if you don’t think that’s really punk rock idk what to tell u
shame they couldn’t do that with women’s faces
STILL ENDED UP WITH ANOTHER WHITE PRINCESS THO SURE IS A ~SPECIAL SNOWFLAKE~ RIGHT THERE
IT’S A FUCKING DANISH FAIRYTALE.
MOST OF THE FAIRYTALES THAT INSPIRE DISNEY WERE WRITTEN BY OLD CODGERS WHO LIVED IN EUROPE DURING A TIME WHERE THERE WERE NOT A LOT COLOURED PEOPLE IN EUROPE SO DON’T EVEN START GOING OFF ABOUT DISNEY “WHITE WASHING" BECAUSE IT IS ONE OF THE STUPIDEST THINGS I’VE EVER HEARD SO SHUSH
thank you thank you thank you thank you T H A N K Y O U
Okay so let’s break this down:
- The original fairytale by Hans Christen Anderson was published in 1845. Hey guess what! There were brown people in Denmark then! How funny.
- Frozen actually doesn’t stay that true to the fairytale it’s based on. Peter Del Vechio, Frozen’s producer, said this, “Hans Christian Andersen’s original version of The Snow Queen is a pretty dark tale and it doesn’t translate easily into a film. For us the breakthrough came when we tried to give really human qualities to the Snow Queen. When we decided to make the Snow Queen Elsa and our protagonist Anna sisters, that gave a way to relate to the characters in a way that conveyed what each was going through and that would relate for today’s audiences.“Inspired by” means exactly that. There is snow and there is ice and there is a Queen, but other than that, we depart from it quite a bit.” So Disney actually doesn’t really care about accuracy! Interesting
- Out of the thirteen Disney Princesses (tm) nine are white. That’s 69%. Why is it okay that there such a big disproportion?
- In Frozen, there are fucking talking moose, magic, and an actually living, breathing snowman. I don’t think they had those in Denmark. Ever. I actually don’t think they have them now.
Why does “historical inaccuracy” only matter when it comes to race? Oh I know, because you don’t care about representation of people who aren’t like you. It may not affect you, but it sure as hell affects the already marginalized kids of color.
